Trail Run Log: Forest Park, Portland

We're running for the trails in our new KEEN trail runners – and we're sharing our favorite places to go. Check back for more trail run reports from KEENers around the world.

My Run Log

Location: Forest Park in Portland, Oregon
Distance: About 5 miles
Shoes worn: KEEN Seek trail runners
Nutrition: I ran fasted because it was a bit too early for me to eat. I enjoyed some post-run avocado toast and fresh fruit in the KEEN Kanteen.
Hydration: I rehydrated all day with lots of water and caffeine.

I woke up early to join KEEN's Morning Miles group run with our trail running ambassadors, Krissy Moehl and Jeff Browning, before our company-wide sales meeting. This was my first trail run, so I didn't know what to expect.

Forest Park is right out the door at our headquarters in downtown Portland. About 20 of us ran up the street and followed the Mac Trail to the Wildwood Trail for a short loop in the forest.

Favorite Part:
It was fun to join some new people from KEEN on the trails. The energy was great, and it was smiles for the whole time despite the rain.

Toughest Part:
The most challenging part for me was definitely the elevation gain throughout. As a road runner primarily, it's a different type of energy needed to get through those big hills.

Personal Takeaway:
I learned that I can handle it! Trail running always intimidated me to some degree because I didn't know where to start or what to do. It really is just as easy as going out and going with the flow of the trail. It's ok to walk!

My Shoes:
I ran in the Seek trail runners. They felt great, super secure. I didn't have to think too hard about where my feet were landing because I knew my shoes would catch me.

Pro Tips:
Just get out there and go!
