How would a plumber build a work boot?
Recently, we found out. We invited KEEN Utility ambassador Eric Aune (@mechanicalhub), a Minnesota-based master plumber and educator, to help craft American Built work boots at our Kentucky factory.
Eric knows a thing or two about building things right. He founded his company, Aune Plumbing & Heating, in 2004 and has developed a specialty in boiler systems and hydronic heating. Ten years ago, he and a few other industry vets launched Mechanical Hub, an in-depth online publication for professionals in the trade, and he’s devoted a significant chunk of his career to education. Whether delivering a trade show presentation or teaching a class of union apprentices, he’s committed to sharing his knowledge to equip future plumbers with what they need to do great work.
A longtime wearer of KEEN Utility boots, Eric stopped by our factory in Shepherdsville, KY, to help bring a few pairs to life, including the Dover, Targhee IV Work, and Liberty. Check out the video above to follow along as Eric goes from inspection and lasting through to trimming, finishing, and boxing.
Our factory brings together the best materials and the most advanced construction techniques available, helping us create some of the most comfortable, durable, American Built work boots on the market. But the employees there are the reason it really shines. Each of them brings their A-game to work every day, and it really shows in the quality of the footwear they’re helping bring to market.
Thanks to Eric for coming to visit. We think that with a little more training, he might actually have a future in bootmaking. You know … if the whole “experienced master plumber, business owner, and educator” thing doesn’t work out.
