Glacier Speak:
Listening to Matanuska

16-MIN WATCH: A sketch of an Alaskan glacier sends watercolor artist Max Romey on a journey to find where his grandmother stood four decades ago. While trying to make the same sketch in the same place with the same materials – with only one page to guide him – he discovers that the glacier is trying to show him an even bigger picture.

Meet the Filmmaker: Max Romey

Growing up dyslexic in Alaska and upstate New York, Max always struggled to share the outdoors with words, so he turned to his sketchbook and camera. He mixes the two to visually show the complex connections and stories of the outside world.

MEET MAX

"I'm hoping that this story can show people the beauty of being an imperfect advocate. And how sometimes just loving a place is enough of a start to the journey to beginning to protect it."
