We've carefully selected leather uppers designed to last. Then again, if you're wearing your KEENs daily, they won't always be scuff and dirt-free. Well, it is not the most durable shoe, not the best shoe for heavy hiking, not a shoe for mountain climbing ... but it is the most comfortable shoe in the world.

I walked with it 850 miles on the Pacific Crest Trail, I was starting the trail with this shoe being brand new wearing 90 pounds backpack ... Every other shoe would destroy my feet, only with this shoe, I knew, there would be no problems.

I passed with this shoe a survival training in Amazonian jungle and it has been approved by the instructors as a great shoe into the jungle, mud, rivers ... because it is dry very fast.

Such a pity, Keen stopped selling this shoe in Europe :-( So I need to ask friends to buy it in the US and bring it back for me as the old one is already broken ...

Had a pair of Keen Voyageurs for a little over a year and they did well on short weekend / long weekend trips (~10 miles) and day hikes no problem and stayed in great shape.

Unfortunately, I took them out for 12 days on the John Muir Trail and they couldn't handle the long days of hiking (~15 miles/day) and especially long downhills (~1000 to 2000 ft descents). Both soles frayed a lot and lost a lot grip after a couple of days. (On the bright side, the fit was still pretty good and I got no blisters, despite a lot of sliding around on the talus and scree). In the end, I had to hike out in my Crocs because the shoes were no good.

Anyway, pretty good for causal hiking and short backpacking, but not durable for any longer trips or heavy use.

    After Appalachian trail hiking

    By

    from Florida

    Comments about KEEN Men's Voyageur:

I just completed a section of the Appalachian trail in these shoes and wanted to offer my thoughts. I usually wear Merrel Moab's, but I had been having plantar fasciitis problems and the Moab's didn't give me 100% confidence. I wear a pair of Keen Austin's to work and love them so I thought I'd try Keen's on the trail. I wear a 12 in the Moab's as well as the Austins and the Voyagers fit perfectly. They do have the wider toe area that I love. They did require a very little bit of break in to make them flexible. I initially had trouble with my heel slipping up and down (big problem on a long hike) and when I would tie them tighter it hurt the top of my foot. I figured out a tying method that resolved it. I would lace them normally until after the 3rd set of eyelets, then put two overhand wraps, then on the top two eyelets I would tie a butterfly knot. Look it up online, it's used a lot for runnng shoes and it really snugs down your heel.
The footbed of these Keen's is great, no plantar fasciitis issues while hiking all day over rough terrain with a fully loaded pack. There is just enough arch support to help without being obtrusive. No blisters either and the my feet didn't get too hot with all the ventilation.
My only issue was that the shoe rubbed the underside of my right ankle bone. I've read this in some other reviews. No problems with the left but the right ankle bone became very painful, especially if the trail sloped so that the right side was higher than the left. It's possible that I have ankle bones that are lower than most people but I haven't noticed a problem with other shoes. I noticed it for the first several miles each day, but as the day wore on it bothered me less. I'm not sure if the shoe material softened over the course of the day or if my ankle just got numb.
Overall I think highly of the Voyagers even with the ankle issue. On my next hiking trip I still want to wear Keen's but I may switch to the mid-height.

I wear these virtually every day. I've blown out 3 previous to my latest pair. These are the most comfortable, versatile shoes I've worn. They run true to size.

    Keen, I'm a lifer.

Thank you for making great shoes.
