I have owned my KEEN Targhee II Mid boots for two years and they have been nothing less than extraordinary! I hike year-round in the Utah mountains and desert. My Keen boots have troughed thru rain, snow, ice, rivers, sandstone desert and rugged rough rocky terrain. 5-star ratings on comfort, durability and water proof. I have logged approx 500+ miles in the past two years as I switch between my Keen and the highly rated Salomon X Ultra GTX boot. I'm very impressed with the durability of this boot as they have taken a beating. I wash and oil the boots once for each season of the year and this has helped maintain the leather uppers.

I generally wait at least 3 months before ever writing a review, because let's face it, most things are going to, or should be great when you first get them, and I actually wish more reviewers would consider this.

Just under 4 months ago I purchased these boots and I absolutely love them. They are by far some of the most comfortable boots I have ever owned. They may be laced up to be snug without being or feeling too tight. I feel confident and stable when walking on rocks or boulders. Traction seems good on wet surfaces. I like the "wider" front of the boot which keeps my toes from feeling cramped. I feel they provide great ankle support. They have kept my feet dry (as they're supposed to). Their easy to get in and out of too. I would certainly purchase another pair in the future even though this morning, one of the eyelets (actually a banded nylon loop) where the shoelace goes through broke... Typically for me, if something actually "brakes" under normal use/conditions... I would give it a 1 star especially since it's less than a year! But only because I love these boots Sooo much, I will give it 3 stars. I called REI this morning and was told to bring them in pickup a new pair under warranty... So all is not lost... I have read in other reviews of this happening as well. I can only hope that KEEN takes note and shares this quality control issue with their manufacturers...

Falling apart within a couple months but incredibly comfy

    By

    from Cazenovia, NY

Comments about KEEN Men's Targhee II Waterproof Mid:

These boots took a couple days to "break in" due to the keen footbed that I was not familiar with. I was actually afraid that I was going to have to return them. But after a few days they were probably the most comfortable boots I have ever owned. And they were WATERPROOF!!! Which to me was a huge deal. I am a carpenter and a snowplow driver so I am outside in wet grass or snow year round and I need waterproof footwear and have a hard time finding true waterproof.

I bought them in the fall and didn't even make it through the winter before the rubber toe started to break away from the leather. This didn't really concern me until there was a hole straight through that I could put a finger through. So I brought them back to the store I purchased them (EMS) which was in the process of closing forever, and they just gave me my money back. So not a total loss right?

If you are not using these almost every day, they would probably last much longer. But for me wearing them in rain and snow, they just didn't hold up. However, I absolutely love the fact that Keen has a 1 year warranty so I was able to get my money back.

At the same time I purchased the Targhee Lows and they lasted longer before falling apart, but I didn't wear them all winter in the snow because I was wearing the Miss. Inevitably, the soles were practically falling off within about 9 months and I found myself tripping because of it. Keen gave me full credit for the entire purchase price and I just ordered the NEW Targhee EXP through their website so fingers crossed that these will last more than a few months.

Thank you Keen for incredible service after the sale! I don't care that they fell apart. You stand behind your products and they are comfortable!!!

    decent shoe but not durable

    By

    from Chile

Comments about KEEN Men's Targhee II Waterproof Mid:

I've been traveling with this pair of shoes for about 3 months now and the binding for the soles are already wearing off. They are comfortable and were ok for about 1.5 months, but overall these shoes are not very durable. First pair of Keen shoes were OK, but I think this will be my last.

Durable shoe, moving on to the next Keen

    By

    from Camp Pendleton, CA

Comments about KEEN Men's Targhee II Waterproof Mid:

I bought a pair of these while stationed in Japan to climb Mount Fuji. They've made it up two +11k ft summits, through Yosemite and many parts of the Sierra Nevada, the Smokies, and many rocky trails in between. After a year of moderate-heavy use, the leather began to detach from the fabric, the sole began to detach on the sides of both boots, and the waterproofing began to wear down slowly.
I put in a warranty claim with Keen with pictures, and with out hesitation, they approved it within hours. I am forever grateful to this company and foresee many worn/torn pairs of Keens in the future.

Have an issue with these boots

    By

    from Colorado

    Pros

    • Good fit
    • Lots of toe room

    Cons

    • heel angle problem

    Best Uses

Comments about KEEN Men's Targhee II Waterproof Mid:

I bought the KEEN Targhee II Mid boots a couple of months ago and loved the fit, feel, grip and toe room. Unfortunately, I ran into a major issue with them. After several weeks and 6 or 7 long hikes, I found my right heel was feeling like it was being tilted to the left. I have never felt this before with any hiking boots.

I looked at the back of the boot and could see the sole was not perfectly perpendicular with the angle of the heel. After several hours of hiking, my right heel felt awful. I tried several different insoles, including some stiff backpacking ones but found little relief.
After an internet search, I found this condition is called 'pronation'.

I did not have time to send them back as I am about to go on an international hiking trip. Therefore, I plan to use the Keens as secondary/emergency boots only on the trip. They will be used only for garden boots after the trip.

So, beware of this issue with the Targhee II Mid. You may want to carefully check the sole and the heel angle.

      NOT WATERPROOF

      By

      from Belwood, NC

Comments about KEEN Men's Targhee II Waterproof Mid:

As a farmer I wear my Keen Targhee II MID ever day. At first they wear good , just don't get them wet. Once they get wet they seem to never dry out. It would be a very good boot if it was as you call it WaterProof.
