My Keens came in and we're a little tight at first but quickly did mold to my feet shape, none of the crazy size problems that others have had^. I have worn my Keens almost exclusively for about a year (they kicked booty during an internship in the Bahamas [hiking + boating + walking] + my adventurous lifestyle in southern Ohio(same^ and biking) but one of my straps is starting to break off- only has a couple stitches left and it's been less than a year and a half. In addition some of the inside stitching is starting to deteriorate. Is this normal? Not sure I feel a little cheated but maybe I should of gotten a thicker pair for my amount of usage. Regardless the toe protection is phenomenal and the shear weight of the shoes makes it hard to switch to other brands like chacos (...hipsters) so I am conflicted on what to purchase next. If KEEN had something like a 5 year warranty I would continue to come back but one year is short (especially compared to chacos lifetime warranty). In addition the grip and grooves on the bottom have worn down drastically (bikings fault), the tightening string has a few catches, and the originally dark grey/orange has faded to light grey.

Sounds like I was really hating on them at the end but I love them so much and will purchase some shoegloe to help lengthen their lifetime :)

Bought in Portland at the Keen shop. Used for cycling and walking, maybe 100 days use. Both shoes have failed at the same point, near the heal below the Keen logo at the junction of the material and sole. The material has just disintergrated and pulled away from the sole. Until then really pleased with them but at $1/day I'm a touch disappointed

I bought these on faith that the size would be Keen-typical: nope.

Wanted to like them but...too small

    By

    from Minneapolis, MN

    Pros

    • Almost a good (more minimal) shoe

    Cons

    • Not true to size (short)
    • Too narrow in toe box

    Best Uses

Comments about KEEN Men's Clearwater CNX:

I appreciate minimalist shoes and thought these sounded like an effort to lean that direction (lighter, flexible shoe with better road feel and little drop from heel to toe). They claim here (not sure how) they fit true to size but I read elsewhere they run small so I sized up 1/2 (sometimes I wear 11 1/2, sometimes 12; I tried the 12). Those were too short but I didn't want to give up on them so ordered a 13. Those fit in length but the toe box was way too small and compressed my toes. This is where the shoe falls short of minimalist principles. I have very narrow feet; the width was fine in the back but I had to return them for the squeeze they put on my toes. Finally ordered a Newport H2 in size 13 and am happy with the fit.
