WOMEN'S HIKING & Walking BOOTS
When it comes to hiking and backpacking, you want a shoe that will resist the elements, offer you better traction on variable terrain, and help keep your foot comfortable no matter how far you wander. KEEN women’s hiking boots and shoes offer a women’s-specific last for out-of-the-box comfort, and a variety of materials and models to suit any adventure.
Look for our KEEN.DRY membrane, which is impervious to water but lets your foot ventilate. It will help your socks stay dry on stream crossings, in snow and unexpected downpours—and on warm days it will allow heat and vapor to escape, helping you avoid hot spots.
Our signature waterproof technology is called KEEN.DRY. It might sound like something applied to the outside of the shoe, but it’s actually a membrane that seals out water from the inside. Imagine an ultra-thin “bootie.” There’s no place for water to get in.
PFC-free water repellency: While KEEN.DRY works from the inside to prevent water from getting in, a water repellent helps rain bead off from the outside so it doesn’t soak into the material. We use a PFC-free alternative that repels water without using harmful chemicals.
Some hiking shoes, like the Voyageur feature mesh uppers to help with airflow; and others, like the Revel III boot feature our KEEN.WARM insulation to snuggle your feet in warmth. Whether you’re looking for a light hiker for exploring the local mountain trail, or a full-on backpacking boot to log long miles, KEEN has a shoe or boot to keep your feet happy.
KEEN Hiking Boots
Hiking boots aim to offer more ankle coverage and support. You’ll want to opt for a boot style hiking shoe if you’re planning to carry a heavy load (like a big backpack) or if you like a little added stability. They’re also ideal for less-worn trails where low-hanging sticks or brush might scrape your ankles.
Among our best women’s hiking boots are the Terradora and Targhee models. The Targhee boot comes in a variety of options, from the airier Targhee Vent mid (ideal for warmer weather) to the Targhee EXP Waterproof, which offers rugged durability in a lean package. A lightweight stability shank will help you navigate through the mountains, and multi-directional lugs give you better traction on a variety of surfaces.
The Terradora is our performance hiking boot designed from the ground-up for women. You get comfort and support, along with the durability and coverage you need for frequent hiking. The Terradora hiker is available with a lightweight reinforced-knit upper or a more classic leather style, both with waterproofing. And for really fast and light days, check out the ultra-svelte Terradora EVO Mid, which offers the support of a boot with the weight, ventilation and mobility of a sneaker.
KEEN Women’s Hiking Shoes & Sneakers
Hiking shoes are ideal for day hikes, light backpacking, and travel. With more mobility in the ankle, less weight, and a more neutral style, they’re a versatile option for exploring the mountains in comfort. Best of all, most KEEN women’s hiking shoes are based on the same profiles as our women’s hiking boots, so you can get the sole styles and weatherproofing.
The top-rated Targhee Waterproof women’s hiking shoe comes with our KEEN.DRY membrane to let you hike in puddle-proof comfort. It also has the same anatomically designed insole and grippier outsole you’ll find on the Targhee boot to offer you support and better footing in a more lightweight package.
The Voyageur hiking shoe has a similar upper style to what you’ll find in our Newport sandals, paired with a trail-tested outsole and anatomical support. Generous mesh panels give you great ventilation, for those toastier days when you want to keep your feet airy and cool.
Our Explore hiking sneakers come in a low-cut as well as a mid and are excellent for those peak-to-pub moments of life.
KEEN Women’s Hiking Sandals
At KEEN, we know that sometimes the best adventures are spontaneous—you never know when the put-in is going to involve bushwhacking, or when a beach day will turn into a mountain expedition for the best view. That’s why our women’s hiking sandals are built to handle everything from the beach to the mountains and back.
The Newport is the hiking sandal that started it all, with our signature protective toe, generous vents to drain water, and a supportive, burly sole for the hike in. Originally intended for boats, we found people wearing their Newport sandals everywhere—so we developed options to address a wider range of adventures.
The Arroyo is our beefiest hiking sandal, with more upper coverage and a substantial outsole. The waterproof leather and stability-shank sole give you the perfect balance of durability and ventilation, perfect for canyoneering. The Newport Hydro sandal offers a quick-dry alternative to the original, and the Eco version features webbing made of recycled bottles and upcycled rice husk soles—for a shoe that feels good to wear for more than a few reasons.
