Super Comfortable, Not as Breathable as Advertised

Comments about KEEN Men's Voyageur Mid:

These were my third pair of Keen boots. I use them for work. My job has both office and field duty. Keen makes the most comfortable boots I've ever worn and I will likely buy another pair of Keens. The only knock on these is that I don't feel as though they are as breathable as advertised. The lining was thicker than expected and they did not keep my feet cool after wearing them a couple hours. I would recommend these for work or hiking in moderate to cool climates.

      Great Shoe

      By

      from Akron, Ohio

Comments about KEEN Men's Voyageur Mid:

I wear this daily now and even to work. The vented construction keeps my feet dry. I originally got this shoe for a trip to the Australian desert and the venting worked great. Now, I am very despondent because they are not making new colors. Seems like they are discontinuing this shoe. Really a bummer.

      Great so far

      By

      from eastern Mass.

Comments about KEEN Men's Voyageur Mid:

I've found claims of breathability of "waterproof" liners to be overstated, so i was looking for a quality, light- to mid-weight hiking boot without a liner for wearing in warm weather. There aren't many options out there; these and the Merrell Moabs were the only ones i could find. I've had good experiences with shoes from both companies, so i thought i'd give these a shot.

I got these primarily for summer, outdoor landcare work. After a few weeks of use, i can say they are comfortable, supportive, not too heavy, seem to breath well, and dry relatively quickly if they do get wet. Grip on wet surfaces seems fine. As others have noted, comfortable out of the box (no break-in needed.) I'm 6'1". about 185 pounds with a medium-width foot. I've been wearing them with midweight socks and copper Smart Feet inserts, and the fit is fine. I usually take 11 or 11.5 (U.S.) in most shoes, and these are 11.5. They are supportive enough that i wouldn't hesitate to take them out hiking on rocky trails.

Just holding out a star on the rating as it's too early to comment on durability.

A word on the lace hooks: These Voyagers have a single hook at the top of the lacing run. This makes it just a bit easier/faster when lacing up compared to most two-hook setups. Not a huge deal, but worth noting.

Though i've only had these for a short while, i've managed to snag these hooks a couple of times on different things, once on a lace loop of the other boot, and once on some vegetation. When looking at the location of the hooks on the Voyager, they are set a bit further back toward the rear of the boot than the hooks on other boots i have, from Keen and others. I can't be sure if that's a factor in my snagging episodes, or if it's just coincidence, but the fact that these kind of "stick out" more on the sides seems to make them more prone to getting caught on things.

If these wear relatively well, i'll be a happy camper, and will consider these again in the future.

Put it through the ringer....coming back to buy another pair

      By

      from North Carolina

      Comments about Men's Voyageur Mid:

I have put these through the ringer, wearing them not only for hiking, rucking, and running but also for yard work, landscaping, digging, etc. I have been very hard on these, and while they are showing signs of wear on the outsole, they continue to perform well. They are lightweight and breathable, they are comfortable with more than one thickness of sock (meaning I can wear them with thin summer socks or with thick wool socks and a Gore-tex liner sock and adjust the laces for a perfect fit). They required no break-in period. I am on the website now to buy another pair even though I still have life in my first pair because I would be deeply disappointed if they discontinued or made an "improvement" to these that ruined them. The only thing that I would improve, and I know that this won't be an issue for many, is that I haven't been able to wear them for skydiving because in some skydiving circles there is a belief that, on deployment, suspension lines may snag on the speed laces, or open hooks at the top of the boot. If you could make a closed-eyelet version I would love to be able to wear these when I skydive as well...

My Voyageurs are the best footwear I have ever owned.

Comments about KEEN Men's Voyageur Mid:

Purchased my Voyageur Mids about ten years ago, wearing them as I type this. Highly recommend them. The most breathable, most supportive, most overall comfortable boots I have ever worn.
They are more comfortable than any walking or running shoe I have worn in the past 50 years. They are light enough to actually run in, although that is not the recommended use. I also own a pair of Targhee Mids for wet conditions, nice boots, but I prefer the Voyageurs for most of my use. I'm actually writing this on hold on the phone waiting to order another pair of Voyageurs, as the ones I'm wearing are finally wearing down on the soles, after many miles of Alaska hiking.
