I had previously tried on the "mid brown/scylum full-grain" leather version of the Grayson. The tongue lacked flexibility and bit into me. Maybe that pair was an anomaly. Maybe they had slipped by Quality Control at the factory. Or maybe if I had given them time to break in, the tongue would have softened. At any rate, I sent them back to meet their maker. I also tried on the "coyote/scylum" version of this shoe. It has a soft tongue. The cushioning provides a pillow-like feel with every step. What's more, it is lighter and more breathable and much more flexible than the Keen Austins. The Grayson has rugged beauty and sophistication. It has a deconstructed design with a leather interior that molds itself to the wearer's foot for a custom fit. I highly recommend this shoe in coyote nubuck leather. Your feet with thank you. Your toes will no longer feel like they are being squeezed in a vice grip. And if you are a carpe diem kind of man who kicks butt in everything you do, this shoe is equipped with a thick black toe bumper.

i work outdoors in a state park and as a supervisor i do a lot of walking. these shoes are so comfortable i forget that i have worn them all day. my previous work shoes i couldn't wait to take them off at the end of my work day. with these i find these oxfords as my go to shoes even on my days off. i look forward to buying another pair to wear as my everyday casual shoes.

    versatile, good-looking, well-made

I really like the combination of ruggedness and sophistication. You can wear them with jeans or even slacks but also with shorts, without looking overly dressy. A different pair of Keens are among my favorite shoes as well.

    Yep, you should buy these.

I bought these Oxfords because they looked good. My first pair of Keen shoes. I was a little concerned about the reviews that complained that the tongue cut into the top of their foot or it felt too stiff. My guess was that their particular foot shape was different than mine because I haven't had that problem with any of my shoes in the past. So, my purchase arrived and I tried wearing them for half a day and changing back to my old shoes (Sketchers) for half a day. After about a week, I demoted the old shoes to yard duty and the Keen Oxfords are wonderful. This is a "soft" shoe even though it does not look like it. The leather is soft, the soles are flexible, and the laces are soft cotton with extreme grip. Once you tie them, they stay all day. I own a suede brush to keep them looking good. As with all suede shoes, if you drop oil on them, they will change color - don't do it. The only downside to this design is the open lug sole. I live in the desert so mud is rare, but mud and pebbles will collect in the lugs. I keep a good mat at the front door and a small brush to keep from tracking collected stuff in. Go ahead and buy these things, they are really comfortable and really good looking.

Versatile and very comfortable after broken in

These shoes are great. Like others, the tongues and a spot on the side hurt me feet, but after 3-4 days of regular wear, the leather softened and molded to my foot. Now, they're incredibly comfortable. They look great, too and are perfect for work or casual. That versatility is what I really like!

Edge of Tongue uncomfortable, otherwise a Great shoe

    4

I love the shoe. My only frustration is the tongue of the shoe. The thin leather edge is uncomfortable when I walk with my shoe laced tightly. It results in a restrictive discomfort where the top of my foot, base of my ankle, meets the edge of the tongue. I have had other Keens with a padded tongue, and wish this were the same. I'm hoping it loosens up and becomes less painful over time. Otherwise, it's a great shoe. I loosen the laces and the pain decreases.

A Work of Art with One Flaw

    1

When I purchased these shoes, I was optimistic. They are lightweight and have a rugged beauty. They have plenty of room for my gorilla toes. But walking in them is like being sent back to the days of the Spanish Inquisition. Each step felt like someone wanted to extract a confession from me. I was compelled to return these shoes after being tortured by their unyielding iron tongues. If the design team would fix that one small strip of leather, I would gladly purchase the Grayson Oxford. Everything else about these shoes is a work of art.

Unlined causes fit and comfort issues at seams

    2

Disappointing. Style, appearance, and color choices are all excellent. These would be daily shoes for me. But, unfortunately, they are not comfortable. Unlined, which is different than most Keens. The problem with being unlined is that the parts of the shoes are connected by what look like welds or seams. This makes raised seams at the base of the tongue and side of the toe box. You can see where the seams are from the stock photos. Because there is no lining, these seams press up against your foot. These shoes are also more narrow than most Keens, particularly near the middle of your foot (which is the reason for the sleekness of the shoe). But, as a result, the seams are pressing into your foot. I found them to be irritating at the least and painful at times. I tried to order two different sizes to see if sizing 1/2 size up would fix the problem with the seams, but that did not work. If these shoes were (a) lined, (b) a bit wider, or (c) had some sort of cushioning or skiving on the seams they would be amazing.
