  • good shoe

this is my 3rd pair of keens in a row for work shoes (retail). lots of walking. not a ton of arch support with keens, would like a little more. durability is good. this pair seems to be the lightest of any keens i've had, and they seem like they'll wear out a little quicker than my first 2 pairs. that seems okay though as my last pair similar to these was very heavy.

I have a bias toward Keens, these aren't my favorite pair

    4

I wear these for everyday casual wear. They get the warehouse, the office, the mountain, the snow, the rain, Sunday go-to-meeting, whatever. I expect Keens to be able to handle everything, and they do that well. However, when it comes to fit, these aren't my favorites. The tongue hits me right at the bend in my ankle, so if I wear them as tightly as I want to it hurts. I loosen them up and they're fine. I have gout (arthritis) that causes swelling in the joint of my big toes. Keens are the only shoes I've found with a toebox big enough to not make it worse and give enough room for that joint. Even with that I used a shoe stretcher to get a little extra width on these. Worked great.

Nearly perfect with one problem, still 5-stars

    5

Though these shoes have one problem, I still rate them at 5-stars because they are nearly perfect for me. They look great. They are lightweight. They are comfortable for a lot of walking, or just sitting. And, my right foot plantar fasciitis has been significantly relieved since wearing these. The one problem is that when walking on a wet surface, the left shoe begins making a "squawking" sound which lasts for 4 to 6 days after shoes have been subjected to these conditions. Maybe this sound will work itself out. Yet so far, there's been no indication of that it will self-remedy. Given the quality of Keen footwear, this pair of shoes that I got is an anomaly, and I would buy these again.

    Suggested Improvement

    4

This is an outstanding product. It replaces a similar Keen shoe. It could be improved for me by offering it it widths. Its C width is a bit wide for me since I have a narrow foot that would be fitted better by a B width. I compensate for this problem by using aftermarket footbed inserts.

Not as good as the regular Austin.

The waxed laces are are thick, slippery, and rather short. They're really frustrating to tie. Also, this version of the Austin is much stiffer than the usual. I have to use a shoehorn to get these on. Yes, they are waterproof (so far).

    Great shoes

I was worried that the Austin waterproof would fit differently than the original Austin, they fit exactly the same.

    Love this shoe!

    5

First, Keen shoes are the best. And this model is no exception. No, the laces are not too short. I have an EEE width foot. It would be nice if the models I wear came in a wide version. But I just stretch them for a day and they fit perfectly. If the laces are too short then replace with a teaditional Criss-cross style. I wear Keen shoes almost exclusively. The quality is fantastic and I love the styles. I bought this shoe because it's waterproof. It is. The Thank , Keen people, for another great product.

Great shoe Give it some love

    5

I wear an EU42 or Us size 9. I have a very wide foot. So I often have to stretch new shoes. So was the case here. But once I got them on they are great. Laces are not short if they are relaxed in the traditional way. I wear Keen shoes 99% of the time and nothing beats the quality, craftsmanship and customer service. But direct as I do. You'll be glad you did.

I would buy again but only with corrections

    2

The photos of the shoe have have the shoelaces tucked in, so they're not visible. In reality, they are 2-3" too short, barely enough to tie a minimal sized bow with no lace left over. It doesnt last long enough before it becomes untied. Great shoe, but the shoe string just kills it - and why? To save $0.15? Keen put a decent length shoe string on this shoe and stop shooting yourself in the foot.
