    Care for Leather

We've carefully selected leather uppers designed to last. Then again, if you're wearing your KEENS daily, they won't always be scuff and dirt-free. Gently brush the shoe with a soft bristle brush or hand towel to remove loose dirt and debris. Stains can be treated by lightly rubbing a gum eraser in a circular motion over the location and lightly brushing afterwards. Tough stains can be treated with a mixture of water and a little vinegar on a damp cloth. This process may cause slight discoloration to the area. Or we recommend using a nubuck leather cleaner and conditioner (Nikwax is a brand we like) found at most better footwear dealers and outdoor gear shops.

    Care for Leather Water Sandals

All KEEN water sandals are machine washable. We’ve also taken great care to develop leather uppers that will not crack, shrink or stretch when washed. Even KEEN leather Newport sandals are machine washable! Use a small amount of detergent, wash on gentle cycle and air dry.

There are some slight differences in care according to color. Also, please make sure to dry completely before using in order to avoid any funny smells.

    White & light colors:

The thick part of the sole is prone to discoloration over time. We advise washing with water but avoiding soap. Wipe with a damp cloth, and for tough stains try a mild detergent highly diluted with water on the cloth. Dry in a place with good ventilation out of direct sunlight.

    Black or dark colors:

You can wash with water. For tough stains try a mild detergent highly diluted with water on a cloth. Dry in a place with good ventilation out of direct sunlight.

Gently brush the shoe with a soft bristle brush or hand towel to remove loose dirt and debris. The natural leather on the Pyrenees and Targhee products are treated with a silicon-based oil. While this ensures a long life to the products, it does mean that some discoloration and wear marks will be visible over time. We consider this your shoe’s personality.

We recommend you treat these products with a silicon-based oil fro time to time. We recommend you first try a small amount on a less conspicuous part of the shoe to test for discoloration. If you see no problems go ahead and treat the whole shoe.

  • My shoes smell funny. What can I do?

If your sandals smell funny, this is usually a result of perspiration. You can machine wash them with mild detergent in cold water on a gentle cycle. Then, air-dry your sandals out of direct sunlight.

  • Are Men’s and Women’s shoes labeled with the same size actually of the same physical dimensions?

No, they are not. For instance, for the same size 25cm, a Men’s shoe is a bit wider and higher in the instep than a Women’s shoe. Of course, for women who prefer a roomier fit, a Men’s shoe may be perfect for you.
