EARTH WEEK, GIVE BACK
This Earth week, KEEN is teaming up with EOCA (European Outdoor Conservation Association) to give back to the nature around us and ensure the protection of the outdoor environment for future generations. For each PFC-Free shoe purchased we will donate 10 euro's of our most sustainable styles from the 19th of April until the 25th of April to the reforestation project the ForestSeeders up to €2.500.
About The ForestSeeders
This reforestation project, based in the Sierra Lujar of Órgiva, in southern Spain, will restore 50 hectares of Mediterranean forest by the direct sowing of 300,000 improved seeds. Improved by Semillistas’ own innovative laboratory, the seeds ensure that the plants are adapted to environmental conditions, thus needing less maintenance. The work will reduce the threats of soil erosion, forest fires and desertification and restore flourishing vegetation and native biodiversity
Update since last donation
In March 2022 they started another phase of this project for the reforestation season fall 2022 - winter 2023. They are introducing some species that provide food for birds and wildlife in general, which is important when it comes to regenerating the ecosystem. This also includes others which are drought resistant. Lujar is full of shrubs but with very little biodiversity and these species are intended to introduce more diversity as most of them are much larger than a rockrose or rosemary. They are also trying to raise the height of the forest.
PREVIOUS KEEN DONATIONS
KEEN Online Voting
With our longtime partner EOCA (European Outdoor Association), we selected 3 projects that we would like to fund during our Cyber Week. We want to do the right thing for the planet and give back to create a lasting change. We didn’t want to do this alone, so we invited KEENfans to choose the project they wanted us to donate €5 of each purchase to during Cyber Week. The KEENfans voted for their favourite project between the 4th and 18th of November and chose The ForestSeeders as winners. Because all the projects we have selected are creating lasting change to our planet, for the good, we would like to highlight and share these initiatives with you. Have a look!
Rewilding the Algarve; restoring habitats & reconnecting people, Portugal
European natural habitats, particularly those in southern Portugal have suffered an alarming reduction in species over the past 50 years. The Whole Wild World organization, aims to restore and revive the ecosystem of a 210-hectare area of the Algarve for the long-term preservation and enhancement of native endangered Iberian fauna and flora such as the Iberian Lynx. Native Sorraia horses and herbivores will be introduced to help restore the native landscape and invasive species will be removed.

The New Oases of Life, Czech Republic
The reforestation project “The New Oases of Life” will focus on the creation of new biodiversity hotspots in intensively used landscapes across the Czech Republic. The project team will turn spruce monoculture into natural, wild forest by planting thousands of native woody saplings in open spaces and create new ponds for wildlife in old landfill sites. The aim is to restore a wildlife-rich habitat, benefiting people, animals, and the environment.
