Initial impressions review. I have been wearing Newport sandals for many years in a size 12 UK regular fit. I reckoned that a wide fit shoe would be best so ordered the Targhee III in size 12 UK wide. The shoes arrived and looked great in a waxy leather, width was fine but way too small in length. In these sizes I couldn't order a half size larger as they are not available and as the Targhee III was not in stock I ordered Targhee EXP 13 UK Wide. I should explain that I wear size 12 UK, usually wide fit, in formal and casual shoes, trainers, approach shoes and mountain boots and have about 8 different manufacturers products in this size. I don't know why the Targhee is running a full size small so make on-line purchases with care. The first thing I noticed when I opened the box was that the EXP is true to colour compared with the screen image, being a rich brown. I expected something more subdued but they look great and different from the usual footwear on the trail. They are supposed to be leather and there may be some somewhere but the uppers don't look leather like; no problem though as they feel tough and should wear well. Out of the box the uppers feel a bit on the stiff side but I'm sure this will flex with use. I am pleased with my purchase and prefer the EXP to the Targhee III having seen both in the flesh so to speak. The shoes look the part and fit really well albeit in a full size larger than my usual fit.
