Sandals for Trail & Water
“I’m looking for trail-ready sandals.”
If you need a rugged sandal built for navigating fallen logs, scrambling over scree, and traversing muddy trails, we recommend the men’s Targhee III Open-Toe sandals. Based on the design of our best-selling hiking boot, it has a waterproof, leather upper and a quick-dry lining, so you can cross chilly streams and just keep going. A burly KEEN.ALL-TERRAIN rubber outsole with multidirectional lugs offers high-traction grip as you explore the high desert or the Lake District.
If your outdoor pursuits include boating, rafting, fishing, or floating, check out the men’s Targhee III Open-Toe H2 sandals. This water sandal has the same high-traction outsole as the leather version, but adds a quick-dry, polyester-webbing upper.
KEEN fans say:
“I really like these sandals. Great fit, comfortable, and very rugged. I chose the KEEN Targhee III for hiking, its aggressive traction sole, and to use [it] in the water for kayaking. They have done amazingly well; very impressed!” – Joseph J.
“Bought a pair of these after toe surgery. They have saved my life as I can't wear any other footwear at the moment. The reflective strip at the rear of each sandal is a great safety feature for cyclists like me! Really well made with excellent heavy-duty soles and well-designed adjustable straps.” – Peter T.
For all the best features of a hiking boot in a sandal that lets your feet feel the cool breeze, you might also consider men’s and women’s Arroyo II sandals. Open vents in the water-resistant, leather upper add breathability. A dual-density EVA midsole absorbs the shock of every step to keep your tread light, even under the weight of that heavy pack. A multidirectional lug outsole keeps your footing secure on rocky ridges, sandy creek beds, and slippery paths.
KEEN fans say:
“These sandals are the best. Great support. The sole is tough. Like a boot sole. You can hike anywhere in these. Hose [them] down if they get dirty, and let them dry in the sun. What’s not to like?” – John S.
“When I was looking for a shoe to wear while traveling and hiking in Costa Rica, I came across Arroyo II. These shoes easily hide the inserts I need to wear. It soon became my "go-to" shoe for walking the Discovery Trail on the Olympic Peninsula. These are shoes that can be worn all day in comfort, and they are also supportive. I now own two pairs.” – Karen H.
Newport Water Hiking Sandals
“I’m looking for versatile sandals to wear for a variety of summer activities.”
Our first design ever, the Newport Water Hiking sandals are still our best-selling style. KEEN’s founders were looking for a comfy, water-friendly, sailing sandal that could guard your toes against the many hazards found on a boat. When they couldn’t find one, they made one themselves, and the rest is KEEN history. Since its debut in 2003, it has become the go-anywhere, do-anything sandal for people who love the outdoors.
Airy yet supportive, men’s Newport sandals have a waterproof, leather upper and the famous rubber toe bumper. The all-terrain tread is siped, with small razor slits cut into the rubber for increased traction on any surface, from algae-covered rocks to wet boat decks.
KEEN fans say:
“I wanted something rugged for climbing and all-day activities in North Africa. After testing these by walking around my local area, I can honestly say these are the best sandals I have ever worn—definitely the most comfortable. Excellent fit and, most of all, breathable!” – Dave B.
“Love my new sandals. Had my last pair for seven years!! Feel like I have new tires. Just completed a tour of six western National Parks!! Only footwear I took with me!! Fantastic!!!” – Drew H.
KEEN fan:
“I hike exclusively in these until it gets too cold. Just the thought of going back into a running/hiking boot is agonizing! This is how comfy and incredibly sturdy these amazing sandals are! Your feet will thank you!” – Happy F.
Water Sandals
“I’m in and out of the water all summer. Which water-friendly sandals do you recommend?”

KEEN fans say:
“Purchased for the whole family before cruising to the Bahamas. Perfect for every occasion. Ship, beach, ziplining, climbing, island adventures…” – Jules
“I bought a pair of these shoes before I went to live on a tropical island for five months. I planned on wearing them in the ocean and on rainy days. Instead, I wore them on hot days, wet days, muddy days, in the ocean, in the city, up mountains and hills, over rocks and fallen trees, through a typhoon, while chopping wood, repairing the house, chasing cows, on boats, buses, and motorcycles. If I went more than a few meters from the house, the shoes went with me. Not once did I step out of my shoes while tromping in the mud, which happens with so many other shoes”. – Darren
The world is your playground, and KEEN adventure sandals help you make the most of every hike, paddle, and float. Strap yourself into a pair and get out there.
