I have a mild form of Raynaud's Syndrome (hands and feet can't tolerate cold), and - until I tried the Keen Summit County boots - the only footwear that I could safely wear in cold Ontario winters (avg temperature -5 to -25 C) were extreme Sorel arctic boots, with my own heated insoles. I was very skeptical when a friend recommended the Keens, but I'm happy to say that they actually work for me -- they are as warm as the arctic Sorels, but are far lighter, more comfortable, and versatile. I still use the heated insoles, but I'm able to wear the Keens on two-hour hikes in -20 C weather with no negative after effects. As I've only had the Keens for two months, I can't address those reviews that warn about leakage and condensation -- so far, the boots have been perfect.

How does a boot, that is not waterproof have a tag that indicates that it is actually waterproof? The only way your feet are going to stay dry is if the temperature drops low enough that snow isn't going to melt.

Shame on you KEEN. not waterproof as advertised..

Let me get right to the point... I am a postie and I am out walking in all kinds of weather and demand a boot that stands up to its claims... there is no gray area here these boots are not waterproof. Having said that let me explain, bought these boots understanding KEEN advertised claims that they are waterproof.... they simply are not ..in fact within the first hour of walking in the snow my right foot was soaked... beleiving the boot had a defect I returned them for another pair... The Shoe Faactory in Mississauga happily accepted them back. I asked for another pair again under the belief the original pair were defective. Loved walking in the boots but again once the weather got even a little damp both boots leaked leaving my feet soaked at the end of an 8 hour day. The conclusion here is obvious... THE BOOTS ARE NOT WATERPROOF. So KEEN STOP advertising these as a waterproof boot. At the post office we are constantly discussing what is the right foot wear and I have had to speak out loudly against buying these boots as they are not as advertised and simply will not standup...if you are looking for a nice looking comfortable boot that will keep your feet warm in dry conditions.. these are a good choice... if being waterproof is a must these boots should not ever be considered as a viable option under any condition where water, snow, rain or any type of moisture might be a concern... KEEN do us all a favour... pull these boots as they are not waterproof and stop advertising them as such, your claim that they are is just false. Regards Dan B

    Good quality winter hiker

I would recommend this boot for winter walking on streets and trails. Tried them at -23 c ( - 26 c wind chill) for an hour long walk on hard-packed snow and ice on streets. My feet started to feel the cold slightly, so I would rate them to about -25 c ( note, I wore 2 pairs of athletic socks, not heavy or wool socks). True sizing for length, but they are generously wide. Traction is pretty good, I even tried to purposely slide on ice, but they gripped reasonably well. Rubber sole definitely gets hard, which transfers in feel to your foot. The sole is quite thick and takes a little getting used to feel compared to a lighter hiking boot sole. Overall what I expected for trail and street walking. Not bulky like a heavier pac style boot. Comfortable upper part of boot.

    Unfortunately this boot fails

I have owned many high quality snow boots. This Summit is not one of them. My family has enjoyed all their summer shoes and sandals from keen and so have I. It was quite a surprise to find out that the typical Keen high quality did not transfer to this boot. It is simply not completely waterproof. It does not leak ,but it builds enough moisture around the toes to begin to feel very cold. I thought it was just me but after living my whole life in Montreal winters I can honestly say that Keen has failed with this product.

I use these boots for snow shoeing and hunting so far the only thing good is keen comfort the loops that hold your laces in are breaking and I don't excessively tighten my boots and the left boot has squeaked since day one no matter what kind of ground you are walking on. I have other keen hikers, shoes and work boots all have stood up to way more use than these boots overall dissatisfied with this product.

I have four different keen footwear that I love, but this product has been disappointing. They keep my feet warm unti I walk through a bit of slush or the snow melts around them when I go inside. I work outside and need dry feet- it was -35 today. My feet got cold.

    Not Good On Slippery Surfaces

    3

bought them at Cabela's. warmth - great (-30, -40 Celsius, no problem), extremely light despite being bulky (no issue for long hikes or snow shoeing), waterproof. However they fail (miserably I would say) on any slippery surfaces (a little bit of ice, and you're on your back, it does not matter if you wear these boots or sandals). recommended for snow and cold, however you'll hike on all four if you encounter any kind of icy surface (and I am not talking about solid ice here, a little bit a snow getting into my garage when removing snow from my driveway, will make that edge unmanageable).
