Fall Fitness in the Mountains with Elise Sterck
New season, new reason to get out there and get after it. Do you embrace the elements with a new fitness routine? We asked our KEEN TrailFit Ambassadors for their fall fitness go-tos—from workout to wardrobe to what they eat to power through it all.
HOW DO YOU WORK IT?
My biggest recommendation is to simply maintain an active lifestyle as training. I don’t “train” often, but stay fit because of large weekly alpine climbing missions (insert your own active adventure here).
On occasion, I do enjoy running up and down the ski resorts in my hometown of Jackson, Wyoming. I feel like it’s a good way to get a hard, yet relatively quick, workout in that helps the lungs adapt to gaining a lot of elevation quickly. Other than that, the climbing helps maintain good core and upper body strength!
HOW DO YOU FUEL IT?
I like to have a balance between healthy options and “treats” when fueling for a large adventure. Dried fruits, nuts, and healthy plant bars (PowerBar
• Dried fruits
• Plant bars
• Gummy bears
HOW DO YOU WEAR IT?
I don’t usually take much with me on a run, just a small bottle of water and my phone/iPod for music! If I’m going on a longer adventure in the mountains, I typically bring more layers (I love my Patagonia sun hoodie and a lightweight puffy) and whatever other gear is required for the day. Either way, I’m typically wearing leggings and a breathable activewear tank.
