White Water Rafting in Alaska to Decompress – New Army Program for Returning Soldiers From Combat Zone

Friday, July 22nd, 2011

“White water rafting the Matanuska River, Alaska. We have a new program in the Army for returning Soldiers from a combat zone to do a fun event to decompress and have fun with each other after being in a high stress area for a year together. Kind of a reboot with your team, so we picked rafting. We could wear civilian cloths but none of us had any wet gear besides our military stuff. The water was 35-deg so I had my KEEN Newports with thick boot socks. It was a blast with my guys!!” – Comment posted by Mike Carrigan on KEEN Facebook’s page.

Your Incredible Shoes: A Fourth Grade Teacher’s Perspective of Newport Sandals and a Pumpkin Contest?

Wednesday, March 2nd, 2011

Dear KEEN,

I have just purchased my third pair of Newport sandals. Like the previous two, I will wear these all day long, every day of the week, every week of the year. I have never worn shoes as comfortable or as cool looking as these bad boys. I teach fourth grade here in Richmond, Virginia.

For our Fall festival a few months ago, each classroom designed a pumpkin for a school contest. Unbeknownst to me, my room mother modeled the pumpkin after me right down to a pair of KEENs (which belonged to a boy in my class). It didn’t win a prize but we loved it and I told the class that I would e-mail a copy to you.

Thanks for your amazing shoes. I tell everyone I know about these shoes and hope I’ve steered a lot of business your way. I am a customer for life.

All the best,

Thru-Hike of Appalachian Trail Wearing KEEN Newport Sandals?

Wednesday, February 9th, 2011

Dear KEEN Footwear,

I wanted to write you to let you know that I completed a thru-hike of the Appalachian Trail wearing a pair of your KEEN Newport sandals. After hiking a little under half of the trail in a pair of Asolo boots (another great product but to hot and heavy for thru-hiking) I began wearing the Newport sandals at mile 968.4 and wore them all the way to Mt. Katahdin 1,210.7 miles later. The Newport’s were the only pair of footwear I had so I hiked, spent time in camp, and all my time in towns in these sandals. The 1,210.7 miles does not include countless side trails, as well as road walks and all my time spent wandering around towns.

I replaced the elastic laces shortly after hitting the Maine state border, but they held up great otherwise. There isn’t much tread on them at this point, but I would definitely wear a pair again on any warmer weather backpacking trip. I would like to try the Arroyo II shoes/sandals next as I feel they may provide better heel support while still offering that sandal style I was looking for.

[Here are] some photos from my hike including shots at the midpoint of the AT, the NY/NJ boarder, the VT/NH boarder, on top of Mt. Moosilauke in NH, and finally on top of “the greatest mountain” Mt.Katahdin- Northern Terminus of the Appalachian Trail.

I now work at an REI in the Washington D.C. area and always have good things to say to customers/fellow employees about your product. Thanks again for all your hard work in developing a fantastic and reliable shoe.

A KEEN Family at Disneyworld

“This is a photograph of my family taken last year at Disneyworld Orlando.  I thought you may be interested as we all have KEEN sandals, which we all love.  We purchased them at Shoes & Socks in Libby, Montana.  I think this would make a great advertisement for KEEN Footwear.” - Ray Eanes

Mama Pritchard Goes for a Swim – Loggerhead Sea Turtle Released in Coastal South Carolina

Wednesday, May 19th, 2010

Dear KEEN:

I thought I would shoot some pictures over to you. We just had our first loggerhead sea turtle release of the season. Mama Pircard had been with us at the South Carolina Aquarium for a couple years recovering from varies problems. She was number 44 on our release count since 2000 and we just pasted the 50 mark a couple days ago. I thought you guys over at KEEN would like the snapshots.

My wife took these and we started laughing because we’re all wearing our KEEN’s in many of the shots. I know most of us here at the South Carolina Aquarium love (and sport) your product. Enjoy the snap shots and where have my KEENs taken me…to the water’s edge with a 368 lbs loggerhead sea turtle!
