The History of National Trails Day: Exploring Yosemite Valley 150 Years Ago

National Trails Day on June 2nd celebrates President Ronald Reagan’s report from 1987 that recommends that all Americans be able to go out their front doors and, within fifteen minutes, be on trails that wind through their cities or towns and bring them back without retracing steps. In honor of the day we’re sharing stories of some of the first photographers who explored the American West, over 150 years ago.
