The Pittsburg is hands down the most versatile work boot you'll ever own. There is no 'break-in' required. From the moment you try them on they just fit. The ankle, heel, and arch are perfectly supported but not restricted. The extra wide toe box provides plenty of room for movement, yet never once has my foot ever slipped inside the boot. If you spend a lot of time kneeling or crouching you'll appreciate the way the sole naturally bends at the ball of your foot without driving the steel toe into the top of your instep. I've worn these boots at work for countless 18 and 20 hour shifts in temperatures ranging from 0 - 110 degrees, not once have my feet been cold or swollen to the point of discomfort. In the winter they stretch nicely to accommodate a wool sock an in the spring, when its time to switch back to regular socks, they're not all stretched out and loose.

They're perfectly at home in a warehouse, on concrete, asphalt, blacktop, gravel, construction sites, mud, snow, puddles, crawl spaces, attics, roof tops, ladders, driving, or in the wilderness, if you can think of it, I've probably been there and the comfort is simply unsurpassed. About how waterproof they are... Average puddles, no problem standing and working in them. I've walked through puddles that are about as deep as my ankle bone, water will seep in and my sock will get damp, but not soaked, and that quickly dries out. If you plan on standing and working in water that deep, this probably isn't the boot for you if you want to keep your foot bone dry. Also, I'm fairly obsessive about using Obenauf's, leather preservative, not the spray.

The life of the sole will obviously vary depending on the surface you spend most of your time on. Textured concrete seems wear the sole down more than any other surface. That being said, I wear a pedometer and used to walk 25,000 steps/12 miles a day, 6 days/week on rough concrete covered in oil and solvents and they still lasted a little over a year. The boot portion just doesn't break down, but like I said, I keep them oiled with a quality product.

Basically, you just can't go wrong with the Pittsburg.

I'm also a railroader and bought these boots in Jan of this year (2016) I'm a track inspector and spend 90% of my days walking track, bowl tracks, bowl switches, and industry leads. I'm on rock and slick ties walking up and down the ballast kicking joint bars kicking spikes. I was told by a old fra inspector that he can tell a good inspector by his boots. If the steel is showing then he knows he's kicking bolts. Well theses boots the rubber toe is still holding up great. The soles on the other hand are shot. Split ripped tore and peeling off the boot. It's too the point that I can feel the sharp ballast threw the bottom. I've wore Redwing and wolverine boots and they last bout half a year to a year also. After working for a class 1 railroad for going on 20 years I've yet to find a boot that will last longer then 6 months. Since my company will pay half on any boot I buy now I'll prob try another pair they are very comfortable and stylish. For somebody who's on his feet for 8 to 10 hours a day walking 2 to 6 miles a day I will say my feet were hardly ever sore didn't get back aches like I did in loggers. They breathed good and still keep my feet warm in the nebraska winters and cool in the humid heat.

Bought the wheat color and have had several people comment on how good they look. Break-in period is good and after only 2 days of wear they are super comfortable.

Best boot EVER! Pittsburgh steel tor

I am flat footed with no arch. The Pittsburgh Steel Toe Boot was the best boot I ever worn. Straight out of the box the boot provided excellent comfort, style and support. After wearing them for about six weeks I went out and purchased another identical pair of boots. I am truly a Keen fan for life.

        WOW - Great boot!!!

I had a pair of Keen Estacda, which were comfortable. I had holes developing in the inside leather of the boot from walking 4-5 miles a day at work. They were so wonderful and gave me a credit to get these new boots! They are so much more comfortable than the older boots! I highly recommend these boots - slightly stiff at first, broken in wow, I wear them like hiking boots now. super comfortable!!!
