Inspiring everyone to stand up for the Canadian outdoors one boot at a time

Tuesday, May 12th, 2009

KEEN is launching KEEN BOOTS ACROSS CANADA, an innovative initiative designed to inspire people who are passionate, active and involved with making a positive impact to the outdoors around us.

KEEN Boots Across Canada includes 3 major components:

  1. PLAYING in the outdoors - hiking, kayaking, cycling or volunteering - and discovering the beauty of Canadian trails and waterways.
  2. CREATING in the outdoors - and uploading photos of one’s Boots Across Canada and possibly winning free KEEN gear.
  3. CARING about the outdoors - the outdoor company will donate $5 for every boot photo submitted on their website to The Bruce Trail Conservancy or to the Trans Canada Trail for the conserving and preservation of Canadian trails and waterways.

picture1At the center of the campaign is the online submission form where in real time, it keeps track of the number of Boots Across Canada and the corresponding growing donation amount.

“The campaign is an exciting opportunity to motivate everyone from coast to coast to get outside and either be recreational or to help give back by volunteering for trail cleanup,” explains Heather Taylor, KEEN Canada’s marketing director.

Online submissions are being accepted until October 31, 2009. For more information, please visit www.keencanada.ca.

“KEEN Coronado sneaks” by chez shoes.

From April 19 - April 25, KEEN sold a total of 360 items that qualified a KEEN time pledge to Waterkeeper Alliance volunteer hours.

That means KEEN employees will donate 7.5 days of time to working for clean water.

About the KEEN Earth Day Challenge

For each pair of Coronado shoes purchased between April 18 - 25, 2009 via our online shop (www.keenfootwear.com) and for each Harvest Marshall wallet purchased ($10) at any of the Earth Day events listed below, we pledged 10 minutes of employee time to help conserve our planet’s water resources with Waterkeeper’s Alliance.

Stay tuned for more updates.

Ready to dig in

Tuesday, February 24th, 2009

As winter starts to thaw and spring rounds the corner, we here in the KEEN offices are getting antsy for new ways to get outdoors and get involved in the community. Although mud runs and weekends at Mt Hood are still top of list for play, check out a few of the ways I’ve found to dig in and fight for our wild places and the environment from the comfort of the office.

Not as fun as river clean-ups and trail work but still very effective:

Ban the plastic bag in Portland, Oregon

Around 100 billion petroleum-based plastic checkout bags are used each year in the United States, requiring an estimated 12 million barrels of oil each year. Sadly, less than 5% of these bags are recycled

Let your congress member know you support S-22 the Omnibus lands package:

The package contains protections for 3 million acres of public land and 1000 miles of rivers

Learn more about the Economic Stimulus Package:

Urge your senator to fight to keep critical clean energy and water initiatives in the bill.
