Disney on a Budget: Shopping for Comfortable Shoes

When you are heading to the Disney Parks, comfortable shoes are a MUST!!! My sister introduced me to Keen shoes about 4 years ago, and now I am IN LOVE!! I remember when I saw her cute shoes and asked here where she got them, she told me “you won’t like them?” I said “but they are so cute and I love that your toes are protected. They aren’t wimply flip flops, but they are still summery.” She then clarified, she told me I would love them because they were so comfortable, but I would NOT love them because of the price (I am a WAY more frugal than my Nordstrom shopping sister).
Keen’s are expensive shoes, but they are so worth it. They are made well, and incredibly comfortable. I started with one pair 4 years ago, and I now own 5 pairs. LOVE THEM!!!! I have also convinced my husband that they are the most fabulous shoes ever and he now owns a pair of Keen hiking boots and a pair of Keen sandals for our trip.
This pair of Keen Paulina slides was my most recent purchase, and the ones I will be wearing on our trip to Disney World.

This week, I tested this messenger-type bag because I had a lot of networking and workshop events, some all day and others at night, that required me to walk around a trade show floor and meet and greet a ton of people while collecting their business cards, giving them mine, taking notes of our meetings and then running to the next meeting or cocktail party where I had to transform into the non-itinerant journalist who would be sipping a glass of Chardonnay at, among other places, the Norwegian Consul General’s residence here in Manhattan.
The Pearl was perfect. When I slung it across my back, I found a zipper compartment — great for pens, business cards and small notebooks — on the left side of the pack (on my back side) but easily accessible while it was still on my back. And, the location prohibited any subway thieves from infiltrating this pocket. Quite an accomplishment. In addition, I stuffed my cell phone into the mesh stretch pocket along the strap, making it also very easy to grab.

Ugly Shoes, Happy Feet
Second only to a pair of “pig butt” slippers I had as a kid (yep, between the cheeks is where your feet went), the Keen Yoguis are the ugliest shoe-like things I’ve ever worn.
And I love them.
Unlike mushy Crocs (or pig butt slippers), the Yoguis have a footbed that cradles your foot with a mildly pronounced arch. These clogs are sturdy enough that they actually need a little break-in period before they totally conform to your foot.
A light, raised texture messages your sole, and they feel good with or without socks. That’s not to say they look really great either way, though. At left is the stunning camo version, but they also come in various tones of plaid (men’s and women’s). I have the (somewhat) understated graphite color which still caused quite the stir at a few 4th of July barbecues this past weekend. (“Cool robot clogs!”)
No, the Yoguis won’t replace flip-flops any time soon as the pinnacle of summer time cool, but they’re perfect for slipping on to recover after a long run. I also keep them in my truck to throw on after mountain bike rides. These will facilitate post-workout chilling for a long time.

I am really fond of the saying, “one man’s junk is another one’s treasure”. This saying holds true to the Harvest Collection Bags. Rice paper turned into beautiful and colorful bags. Now that is some fabulous creativity! Who would have thought that rice paper could be made into a new and useful product.
My favorite is the Irving Bag. It is made from reclaimed rice paper that is woven to create a gorgeous bag. I love that every bag is completely different from one another. That is what makes the world go round – uniqueness!
Keen’s Irving Bag is very spacious with lots of pockets. Plus the handles are very comfortable on your shoulder. Having multiple children, this bag is every mother’s dream as a diaper bag! This bag is very well put together. As you can see below in the picture, I was able to put a lot of items in the bag (very sturdy!). Another great aspect of the bag is once my kids out grow the diaper bag phase, I can use this bag as a gym bag or an everyday bag.
