KEEN Hosts Vancouver BC Urban Study Trip Tour of Portland, Oregon

KEEN hosted the Vancouver Board of Trade on the afternoon of Friday, May 28, 2009 during their 3-day study tour of Portland, Oregon. We also had the honor of hosting Mayor Sam Adams of Portland, Oregon and Mayor Gregor Robertson of Vancouver, BC.

Key objectives of the trip included:

  • Learn best practices that can be implemented in Vancouver BC
  • Inspire new learning
  • More than meetings: include experiential learning models

Topics covered during their visit to KEEN included:

Sustained Regional Economic Development

Topic: Authentic Emerging Economies - How Portland’s culture, taste, & attitudes are leveraged into effective economic development strategies.

Case Studies: Discussion of emerging industries are true and authentic to Portland.

The afternoon meeting was followed by a reception with Mayor Sam Adams of Portland, Oregon.

The Mountain River Fly Shop is planning a huge day of casting demo, product displays, fishing seminars, fly tying and a whole lot more. You could also win one of 2 pairs of KEEN Sandals of your choice.

Three of the store’s key custom tiers, Teresa Van Winkle (Davy Wotton Flies), Danielle Wilkinson (Clint Wilkinson Custom Flies) and Ben Levin (Duane Hada Custom Flies) are lined up for tying demos on local flies that really work.

Long-time mates Cary Marcus (Sage, Umpqua, Rio and Fishpond) and Eric Kraimer (Simms, Scientific Anglers, Rainy’s Flies) will be along to share their vast stores of knowledge on stuff. There will be regular casting sessions, including an on-water casting session.

The Mountain River Fly Shop is hoping to have its full guide team Clint, Kevin Brandtonies, Marc Poulos, Chad Johnson and Steve Dally , in the store at least part of the day to fill you in on their take on fly fishing tactics on the river. Davy Wotton is also hoping to join for a session. Local artist, fly tyer and smallmouth guide/guru Duane Hada wil be unveiling some of his new pieces and painting in the store.

There will also be some refreshments and more door prizes.

Bike Rush Hour in Portland, Oregon

While here, Streetfilms teamed up with Crank My Chain CycleTV to put together a new, 3-plus minute film that takes a look at “Bike Rush Hour” on Portland’s Hawthorne Bridge.

Streetfilms produces videos that show how cities around the world are reclaiming their streets for pedestrians, cyclists and transit riders.
