KEENterns Beat the Heat with Ice Cream

Written by Digital Marketing Intern, Cori Batey

Hello again! The past couple of weeks have flown by in a busy mix of meetings and projects. So when someone suggested a trip to Salt and Straw—a Portland staple featuring ice cream made with local, seasonal ingredients—we couldn’t turn it down. It didn’t hurt that it was the hottest day of the summer yet, clocking in at 97 degrees.

The 10-block walk from the office to the shop was daunting in the heat, but we kept our eye on the prize and our spirits up. After what felt like hours (but was probably twenty minutes), we arrived and were pleasantly surprised at the short line—a rare thing for the popular Salt and Straw!

Salt and Straw’s specialty is seasonal ice cream flavors that change periodically, so there is always something new to try. Right now, the shop is all about berries, serving UNEEK (I had to!) combinations like Black Raspberry and Smoked Ham, Birthday Cake and Blackberry, and Goat Cheese Marionberry Habanero.

We had a blast trying all of the different flavors and picking out our favorite combinations. When everyone had gotten their much needed ice cream, we found a shady table at a nearby park and enjoyed the afternoon!
