Out of Sight, Out of Mind is a team of three kayakers with a mission to promote the intrinsic and ecological importance of the world’s oceans. In early May, the team paddled their kayaks from Portland to the ocean with canoes in tow to serve as “garbage barges” to collect the trash found along this 100+ mile journey to the Columbia River’s terminus at the Pacific Ocean.
On June 25th, join REI ‘s Shay Bickley and OSOM Teammates Jason Self and Chris Bensch at REI Portland for a slide show presentation of their story, documenting the path of plastic pollution from purchase and consumption to the storm drain, into the river, the ocean, and its eventual convergence with the Great Pacific Garbage Patch. The trio have a goal to to stop plastic litter from making its way to sea. They also hope to inspire others to do the same.
